Warmoth sells gold fret wire (F61GD) that is not plated but is a copper alloy they state wears as well as their standard wire. The color is very similar to 12k gold.
The possible problem is that the wire only comes in one size--.90 x .055, which seems narrow and high. What about the use of these. To high, narrow, how to fix if necessary?
Thanks,

I noticed that LMI also sells gold fretwire, just not sure what sizes...

The wire that LMI carries is Jescar wire (as well as Allied Lutherie), and the
advantage is being able to buy in smaller quantities. I don't know what
Jescar's minimum order is, I've only bought five or six pounds at a time
from them. They supply many of the manufacturers and prefer to sell in
skid loads of 30# spools.

The gold wire that LMI sells I'm sure is Jescar's "EVO" wire, which is at
least as hard as thier nickel/silver (which is the hardest nickel/silver
available that I've found). The Warmoth wire you mentioned is probably
Jescar as well - .090"x.055" would be thier 9662 size.

I'm not sure what sizes LMI stocks in EVO wire, but if you can't find it
anywhere, Jeff at Jescar is very helpful and easy to work with.

When I ordered from them a few months back 1 lb. was the minimum order.
